Law Estate Wines

Owners, Don and Susie Law, have long had a passion for Rhone inspired blends. Their mantra was to find a vineyard site that could produce ultra-premium, limited production, Rhone and Priorat style wines that would be a true expression of the site.

Paso Robles is ‘America’s Rhone’.  After two years of evaluating many potential sites (almost to exasperation), they finally found our Holy Grail. The analysis of 42 soil pits on this site revealed coveted limestone with low vigor soils. This, combined with the high elevation and steep slopes, was the unique and remarkable property that would produce the premium fruit they desired. Critical to their goal is a winery that can manifest the quality of the terrific fruit and create a world-class wine.
Located above Peachy Canyon Road on the west side of Paso Robles, the vineyard is one of the highest in the area at 1,600 to 1,900 feet. It is planted in high density, small-lot blocks. The extreme slopes, limestone soils, and multiple aspects create the distinct canvas and palette from which we work.  At 75 acres planted, multiple clones of Grenache and Syrah account for 53% of the vineyard acreage. Accompanying that are Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, and Tempranillo. The vast majority of our vines were planted in 2008. In 2013, they planted Clairette Blanche, Marsanne, and Roussanne, as well as a Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne field blend. Their most recent planting, in April of 2016, was Petit Verdot.

They also believe that the Tasting Room should be an environment much like your home living room, where you can relax with friends and family while enjoying our Law Estate wines. As they continue to showcase and share the best that our estate has to offer, they will always be honored to have you joining them in the adventure.
Don and Susie Law are lifelong skiers, cyclers, and wine devotees. So what is the common denominator? The zest to “have game” at the highest level. After making the decision to pursue the art of wine, they searched throughout California for the perfect place to establish a Rhonish focused wine project. They were blown away by the beauty of the Central Coast, and even more by the terrific wines of West Paso. After two years of scrutinizing different potential sites, they found the perfect ground, now the vineyards of Law Estate Wines. Their goal is to blend the terroir, the winery facility, and their talented team to create a memorable and site specific offering of ultra-premium wines.

Philipp Pfunder joined Law Estates just in time for their 2016 vintage. Philipp is originally from Munich Germany, making the move to Miami at age ten. In 2008, he traveled to New Zealand to pursue his Masters in Wine Science. Splitting his time between the northern and southern Hemispheres has allowed Philipp to work at some incredible producer’s in New Zealand such as Kumeu River, and Dry River, as well as Château Angélus in Saint Émilion and Screaming Eagle in Napa. Wanting to find a place to settle down in the industry, Philipp knew that Paso Robles was where he wanted to be and these were the incredible wines that he wanted to craft. He loves working alongside Scott and Levi to produce premium wines that will continue to put this area on the map.

VIDRIO

Vidrio is the bold vision of restauranteur Lou Moshakos. Built on the philosophy of “love is the most important ingredient,” Vidrio is a family dream years in the making.

As a native of Lykovrisi, Greece, Lou is the son of farmers living off the bounty of the land. Meals highlighted fresh fish, slow roasted meat, village olive oil, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and most importantly, family. When Lou speaks of his family, it is always centered around the table and filled with laughter, stories, and love.

This communal tradition of dining and sharing is captured in the essence of Vidrio. Vidrio embraces the Mediterranean dining philosophy – rooting it in the respect for the ingredient, the nourishment of food for our bodies and to use the time around the table to reconnect with each other. Making dining the occasion to gather together.

And, no Mediterranean meal is complete without wine or olive oil. With 50 wines on tap and over 300 bottles, the variety of wine is sure to please. As an added detail, Vidrio imports the purest Greek olive oil from Lou’s village. Vrisi 36 olive oil completes every dish with the highest regard to the excellent health benefits of this liquid gold.

Vidrio is an open window into the Mediterranean. Sharing plates both large and small are made with the freshest ingredients allowing the flavor to shine. Handcrafted seasonal cocktails with exotic spirits are exciting and delightful. The vibrant, modern environment is visually mesmerizing and filled with warm, personal hospitality. These touches speak to the patience, creative vision and hard work of Lou Moshakos and his attention to detail to bring this ode to the Mediterranean to Raleigh.
