Accendo Cellars have always said their best wine has yet to be made. This was their philosophy as the proprietors of Araujo Estate and stewards of the historic Eisele Vineyard, and it is their guiding principle today with Accendo Cellars, the Napa Valley winegrowing venture we founded in 2013. Inspired by the revolutionary Napa Valley wines of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, Accendo pays homage to an earlier era and marks a beginning of a promising new paradigm: to source grapes from some of the finest vineyard sites and terroir in Napa Valley; to make a wine of balance and restraint in the style of Napa Valley’s past wines; and to produce this wine with the commitment, energy and meticulous attention to detail that have characterized our past efforts.
Dalla Valle Vineyards
Dalla Valle Vineyards overlooks the Napa Valley floor from a hillside terrace 400 feet above the Silverado Trail in Oakville. Since Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle purchased the property in 1982 and began planting vines, this exceptional acreage has continually distinguished itself as the ideal site for producing some of the world’s finest wines, thanks to the perfect convergence of lingering sunlight, cooling marine influence and red volcanic soil.
The estate wines produced by Dalla Valle Vineyards originates in specific vineyard blocks, imbuing each with a unique sense of place. The Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon, Maya and Collina Dalla Valle are all blended, in varying amounts, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown on the property.
Growing up on the east end of Long Island, New York, Kerrin Laz was raised by parents that loved to cook and bake, using only fresh, local ingredients. Kerrin was first introduced to wine and viticulture during her childhood when she witnessed the evolution of surrounding sod fields and potato farms evolve into vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
In 2003, Kerrin joined the DEAN & DELUCA team as Wine Buyer for the Washington, DC store — launching her successful career into the wine industry. After three years on the east coast, Kerrin made the cross-country move to Napa Valley to manage and create the wine selection for the DEAN & DELUCA in St. Helena and ultimately becoming the wine director for DEAN & DELUCA, both domestically and internationally. After an incredible twelve years with DEAN & DELUCA, in the Spring of 2015, Kerrin left DEAN & DELUCA to launch K. LAZ WINE COLLECTION, an online wine shop and beautifully appointed tasting room and retail shop in Yountville, the heart of Napa Valley.
In Fall of 2016, Kerrin added vintner to her title when she released the inaugural vintage of her own wine label, LAZ Wine. Seeing many in the business beginning their own wine projects Kerrin knew that if she were to ever start her own brand, she would only partner with one of the best winemakers and source from only the best vineyards. If that wasn’t a possibility, then she simply wouldn’t launch her own wine. Luckily, thanks to her great working relationship and friendship with renowned winemaker Celia Welch, Kerrin was able to bring Celia on board as the winemaker for LAZ WINE and in October 2016, the debut vintage of 2014 LAZ Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was released.
During her 12 years tasting, sourcing and bringing to market the best wines for Dean & DeLuca, Kerrin Laz has established personal relationships with nearly every California winemaker worth knowing, and has garnered a reputation as a leading authority on wines in the region. Kerrin has developed a loyal following of discerning wine connoisseurs and has built collections for some of the country’s top CEOs, celebrities, athletes and other influencers. Her ability to secure limited allocations from cult labels such as Screaming Eagle, Abreu Vineyards and Dana Estate (which all have waitlists just to get on the mailing lists) makes K. LAZ the only place in Napa Valley – and possibly the country – where guests can freely taste these labels in one sitting without the high cost of purchasing full bottles.
SLOAN ESTATE, perched on the eastern hills of Rutherford across 40 spectacular acres, overlooks the Napa Valley floor at elevations ranging from 875 to 990 feet above sea level. The 13 acres under vine were planted in 1997 on a mineral-rich, porous soil of fractured volcanic rock and sandy loam. The perfect blend of white tufa soil, a cool marine influence, and generous sun exposure forms the ideal site for growing fruit of a distinct quality and crafting exceptional wines that are compelling expressions of these elements.
Sutong Pan and his daughter Jenny Pan fell in love with the beautiful wines produced by SLOAN ESTATE the first time they tasted them, and were captivated by the breathtaking property the moment they stepped foot on it. An unforgettable visit turned into a stewardship of the land when in 2011, the Pan family and the Goldin Group acquired SLOAN ESTATE from Stuart Sloan, who for over fifteen years had developed the vineyard’s remarkable potential and scaled the heights of quality. The Pan family is excited to build upon past legacies for future generations and share their passion with wine lovers around the world.
The immensely talented production team led by winemaker Martha McClellan, vineyard manager David Abreu, and consulting oenologist Michel Rolland has endeavored to handcraft exceptional wines since the 2001 vintage. SLOAN ESTATE is committed to the mission of producing the finest wines possible from the hillside estate that honors the unique character of its extraordinary terroir—the word for the confluence of climate, soil, aspect and, quite possibly, soul, that makes the world’s most enchanted vineyard sites.
