Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (Cary) with Alexana Estate Vineyards and Winery and Revana Family Vineyard

Alexana Estate Vineyards and Winery

Named for Dr. Revana’s daughter, Alexandra, Alexana Estate Vineyards and Winery was established in 2005 when Dr. Revana set out to locate an area to grow Pinot Noirs that could rival those of Burgundy. This ideal location was found in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where Dr. Revana met Lynn Penner-Ash.

Nestled within the Red Hills of Dundee, just 28 miles southwest of Portland, the Revana Vineyard is marked by ridges that run north and south with small valleys in the east, south and west sides. The 80 acre property benefits from warmer nights with less frost and fog that nearby valleys that nurture the 31 separate microblocks.  In 2006, Lynn crafted the first Alexana wines from the Revana Vineyards in Oregon. After joining the team in 2012 as Associate Winemarker, Bryan Weil now works closely with Lynn as Winemaker while overseeing the production of Alexana Wines. Alexana’s distinctive wines speak with the diverse, premium quality that is Revana Vineyard.

Originally interested in the culinary arts, Bryan Weil began his career at culinary school in Albany, Oregon where he was encouraged to take a wine and food-pairing course during his studies. It was here that his passion for wine first took hold. At the Joel Palmer House in Dayton, Bryan became the wine steward and his appreciation and love for Oregon Pinot Noir flourished.

Through his restaurant connections, Bryan began working part time at Domaine Serene. With encouragement from the winemaking staff he decided to go back to Oregon State University, and in 2008 he graduated with a degree in Enology and Viticulture. Shortly after graduation, Bryan accepted a position as Assistant Winemaker at The Hogue Cellars.

Revana Family Vineyard

Dr. Revana, a cardiologist from Houston, Texas, had vineyard manager, Jim Barbour, plant Revana Family Vineyards in 1988, which consisted of 9 separate blocks that made up 9 acres. St. Helena is located in the northern part of Napa Valley in a narrow stretch of the valley that is framed by the Mayacamas and Vaca mountains. The soils are gravelly, and well drained. Revana’s wine maker, Thomas Browne, uses the grapes from the sloped pitch with excellent exposure to craft wine through a non-interventionist style.

Wine quality begins in the vineyard. The Revana Estate Vineyard is situated in a prime part of St. Helena where deep, well-drained alluvial soils pair with warm days and cool nights to provide an ideal terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. Hands-on vineyard management ensures that the natural potential of each vine is realized and only perfect Cabernet grapes are brought into the winery. Once in the winery, Thomas Brown’s artfully restrained approach to winemaking allows for the pure expression of the Revana Estate Vineyard. Employing natural yeasts, gentle maceration and attention to every detail, Thomas crafts wines of purity, depth, character and elegance.

Revana was ranked number four in the world on The Wine Spectator’s list of Top 100 Wines of 2010. Browne has also received awards himself, 2010 Winemaker of the Year by Food & Wine Magazine as well as multiple 100 point scores for his wines from The Wine Advocate and The Wine Spectator.

With fierce ambition, she built a modest steak house into the world’s largest fine-dining company. Ruth opened up the restaurant in the 60’s and now has several franchises throughout the nation. The restaurant celebrated the 40th anniversary in 2005 and went public later that year. Decades after its opening, the restaurant continues to provide their customer with the same great service that Ruth prided herself.
